Learning About Shadows and Light Through Images
With the ever increasing and often overwhelming amounts of digital information on the web, curation is a skill that students need to develop to help them select reliable, quality resources. A good place to have them begin to learn this skill is with visual tasks.
A project I undertook this year with my students was to have them “curate” images from the National Gallery of Canada on the science topic, Shadows and Light. Given a series of scientific terms, they were asked to find one image for each that exemplified the definition of the term. They were then asked to write about their selection, visit other students pages, and comment on them. Below you will find a checklist for the assigment, a rubric, and a reflection sheet.
